Boy Scout Rank Advancement
Scouting provides a series of surmountable obstacles and steps in overcoming them through the advancement method. The Scout plans their advancement and progresses at their own pace as he meets each challenge. The Scout is rewarded for each achievement, which helps them gain self-confidence. The steps in the advancement system help a Scout grow in self-reliance and in the ability to help others.
The Scouts advance through the following ranks:

- Progress through the ranks: Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and finally Eagle.
- Earn 21 merit badges, including:

D. Citizenship in the World
E. Communication
F. Cooking
G. Personal Fitness
H. Emergency Preparedness OR Lifesaving
I. Environmental Science OR Sustainability
J. Personal Management

- Serve six months in a troop leadership position.
- Plan, develop, and give leadership to a service project for any religious organization or any school or community.
- Take part in a Scoutmaster conference.
- Successfully complete an Eagle Scout board of review.
